5.3.2.1 general rule

How to replace the escalator step roller

1,Using the circlip plier to take off the jump ring(escalator ring)

2,Then using Three-Jaw Puller to take offf the old escalator stop roller

3, Then add the new escalator step roller(pls note, put the old roller on the top of the new escalator roller), using hammer strike the old roller

4, Add the jump ring again when the new escalator step roller have been installation complete

5, Test it, and the replacement have been finished if the test is good.

Technology

Escalatorfriction wheels consist of an elastomer coating and a metal body.

The elastomer coating is like the escalator handrail’s coating.

The friction lining is permanently joined to the metal part.

The metal body is made from standard free cutting  steel 9 S 20 K. Centerings are provided for subsequent machining.

The metal body is wider on one side than the friction lining for easy rolling gear mounting.

Installation

The axles of the driving and driven shafts must be aligned parallel. Radial runout of the wheels must be avoided.

Where rolling gears are mounted side by side, the shaft must have sufficient rigidity.

For applications requiring a virtually vibration-free drive and high concentricity – and rolling gears mounted in pairs – the rolling gears must ground after mounting.

Worn rolling gears must be replaced in pairs.

In this way,the high production tolerances are compensated and rolling gears mounted in pairs are subjected to uniform load.

matters need attention

When machining the metal parts, the temperature of the metal should not exceed 100 °C. When grinding and turning, the temperature of the friction lining should not exceed 70 °C, briefly 80 °C.

Reciprocating longitudinal grinding produces a smooth surface.

Face grinding must be avoided.

Exerting low pressure prevents excessive heating. The elastomer coating smears under excessive pressure.

If the surface is smeary, interrupt grinding and allow the elastomer coating to cool down completely.

Apply talcum powder to the surface.

Subsequently grind clean exerting low pressure.

In normal the thickness of escalator friction wheel is 5-7mm, and i can working over more than 12months, our escalator friction wheel's thickness can be 9-10mm, so ours can working over more than 24months.
